Battle for Big Wins in New Monster Domination Slot

What happened to vampires and werewolves? Since Twilight, Vampire Diaries, and True Blood, these once feared monsters have become an increasingly weird fetish. Luckily, we still have monsters and zombies, despite the best efforts of iZombie and Warm Bodies. And since those are the only two creatures left to go bump in the night, Golden Hero figured they might as well use both for Monster Domination slot.

A tale of two themes

Monster Domination slot is set in a world with gothic architecture, steampunk technology, and a dark, almost washed-out aesthetic. This world is populated with zombies, monsters, and occult imagery. The whole thing is a weird mix of genres and ideas that probably works when you’re a few too many shots into the top shelf.

Despite the strange melting pot of genres and ideas, I have to admit that it has all been executed exceptionally. Golden Hero teamed up with Japanese video game developer Racjin for the slot’s creation. Racjin has been trusted with popular anime titles like Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Naruto, which speaks to their credibility. It is, as a result, no surprise that they managed to pull off what must have been one of the most confusing briefs they have ever received. Or maybe the pitch came from Racjin, who knows.

Let the battle for wins begin!

Is it just me or are base game bonus features becoming increasingly rare just as bonus round features are becoming increasingly complex? Monster Domination slot follows that trend with nothing but a wild symbol in the base game that will substitute for all other symbols to complete winning combinations.

If you’re looking for big wins, you’ll need to join the battle. There are three ways to do this. Either you fill up a character’s gauge, grab three or more monster box bonus symbols, or you can buy a round of the battle feature.

Once the battle feature is triggered, one of three heroes will be randomly selected for you. As far as I can tell, it really doesn’t matter which hero you get. The characters don’t each have a special bonus feature, which is a missed opportunity if you ask me.

The battle feature has four levels of increasing difficulty. During a battle, the strength of your attack will be determined by how many symbols of your hero character appear on the reels.

If no symbols appear, your opponent will take their shot. If you fail to defeat your enemy within five spins, you’ll lose and be transported back to the base game. If you win, a monster box will appear, and you’ll receive a random win multiplier, five extra spins, and be introduced to your next opponent. The stronger the opponent, the larger the win multiplier will be.

Is Monster Domination slot the hero or the villain?

I really like a lot of what Golden Hero is attempting to do. The fusion between the anime and slots world has resulted in some really cool titles, including Ninja Hereo Goemon, which Racjin also worked on, Oiran Dream, and Dreams of Gold.

So going into Monster Domination slot, I had really high expectations, which may have been the problem. It just didn’t feel like it was up to Golden Hero’s standard compared to some other recent releases. Don’t misunderstand me, though. Compared to most other titles, the slot offers great graphics, exciting bonus features and gameplay, an RTP rating of 96.56% coupled with low to medium volatility, and a perfectly large €153,000 bonus jackpot. I just wanted more from Monster Domination slot.

If you’re looking for titles that I did love from Golden Hero, I recommend Oiran Dream and Dreams of Gold. They’re not for everyone, but they are the height of that fusion between anime and slots that makes the slot provider unique and interesting to me.
