The slot isn’t the first to implement variable reel height, but its implementation of the feature may be the most unique I have ever seen. Instead of the reels expanding with cascading wins, which is generally how the feature is used, the height of each reel is selected at random, ranging from between three and five symbols high. The result is endless reel shapes that make for some really engaging gameplay. It also means that the slot’s ways to win range from as little as 243 to as many as 32,767 ways to win. This is, however, not where the slot’s variable reel height feature ends.
The slot also offers cascading reels. This feature removes symbols involved in winning combinations, allowing new symbols to fall into the empty spots. If another win combination is formed, the process repeats until a winning combination is no longer created. In GempPOPs slot, the height of a reel will be increased by one with each symbol on that reel that is involved in a winning combination up to a maximum reel height of five symbols in the base game. Then there are the multipliers.
Reel multipliers, which are located above each reel, will increase by one, with each symbol over three, which makes up the reel. So, if a reel is five symbols high, the multiplier will be 4x. This multiplier is then applied to any winning combination that includes a symbol from the reel in question.
A round of the slot’s free spins feature is triggered with the appearance of three or more bonus symbols. Once you trigger a round, you will be given the option to gamble the amount of free spins you unlocked to try and get some more or avoid the risk of losing them by just taking what you originally received.
During a round of free spins, every reel will start at five symbols high and can grow up to seven symbols high. Additionally, the reel multipliers will not be reset after each spin and will continue to grow throughout a round of free spins.
