Sugar Park Slot Review: Sensational or Sickly Sweet?
When you really think about it, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is absolutely bonkers. A mysterious recluse invites kids into a candy deathtrap where one gets turned into a blueberry, another gets incinerated via teleportation, and nobody, not even the adults, seems that bothered. Meanwhile, the factory is run by an army of singing, judgmental Oompa Loompas, and the grand prize is basically child labour disguised as a golden opportunity. It’s like Saw for kids, but with more sugar.
Fortunately, the Sugar Park slot from Hacksaw is more Sugar Rush from Wreck-It Ralph than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Two or three sugars with that?
The Sugar Park slot from Hacksaw features a Cluster Pays mechanic instead of traditional paylines. Betting starts at just $0.10, with a maximum limit of $35. If you’re betting at the upper limit, you could win up to $350,000, thanks to the 10,000x maximum multiplier. The slot has medium volatility, offering a balance between frequent wins and the chance for bigger payouts. The RTP is 96.31%.
The slot features a cascading reels mechanic that removes symbols involved in winning combinations, allowing new symbols to fall into the empty spaces. This process continues until no new winning combinations are formed. However, the game includes a twist on the classic cascade feature: with each cascade, a global multiplier increases by one and is applied to the payout from the next winning combination. This multiplier resets at the beginning of each new spin during the base game.
Each winning cascade also fills a meter next to the reels. After five consecutive wins, the meter is filled, and a giant 2×2 wild symbol is added to the grid.
When a Sugar Swirl symbol lands on the reels, it locks in place and activates once all cascades are complete. It will either transform into a wild that expands to cover one row and two columns, effectively three individual wilds, or it will select a low-paying symbol on the reels and convert all instances of that symbol into wilds.
The free spins round is triggered by landing four, five, or six scatter symbols, awarding 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. During free spins, the global multiplier does not reset between spins and continues to grow throughout the round.
If you’re not keen on unlocking the free spins round the traditional way, a buy bonus feature is also available.
Is the Sugar Park slot worth the cavities?
I’ll be honest, sweet-themed slots have never really been my thing. I’ve always found them a bit childish. That said, given the massive popularity of Candy Crush, I’m clearly in the minority. The main issue with the theme is that it’s hard to stand out; once you’ve seen one candy-themed slot, you’ve pretty much seen them all. The Sugar Park slot from Hacksaw doesn’t do much to change my mind. It just looks like countless other games in this genre. The bonus features are decent, but not enough to make me want to come back. I’d give Sugar Park a six out of ten.
If you’re looking for a few Hacksaw slots that I do enjoy, I recommend Aiko and the Wind Spirit and Densho.
